About Mindfulness

Mindfulness is essentially an unstructured, nonjudgmental self-observation and attention to the present moment, allowing for noticing and accepting change, both internally and externally.

About Meditation

Meditation is a more structured, concentrated form of mindfulness. It is a purposeful practice with a determined length of time, often to focus on just one thing in the present moment, such as the breath, music, a candle, thoughts, sounds, objects, etc. The goal is to be mindful of the focus of your meditation (such as the breath) and consistently bring the attention back to this focus, nonjudgmentally, any time the attention has wandered. 

Meditation is most effective when it can be done daily. Even a 5 to 10-minute daily meditation can be helpful in changing the mind’s ability to bring itself back to the present moment at other points throughout the day. Free apps and YouTube videos are available to assist you in finding daily guided breathing and mindfulness meditations.
